Update from the DCYA (AIM support Team) on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Training
As you are aware, the Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) supports children with disabilities to reap the full benefits of free pre-school education. Level 1 of AIM sets out to foster and embed a strong culture of inclusion to support all children’s maximum participation in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme.
Under this level, a new Inclusion Charter has been developed. Updated Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Guidelines have been published and a nationwide training programme on these Guidelines is currently being rolled out by the CCCs to pre-school practitioners.
Participation in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion training programme is not mandatory for pre-school practitioners. However, participation is strongly encouraged by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs as completion of this training will assist pre-school providers to deliver an inclusive pre-school experience, which is the cornerstone of AIM.
The voluntary nature of the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion training programme will be clarified in the 2018/2019 ECCE Grant Funding Agreement and accompanying Rules for DCYA Childcare Funding Programmes 2018/2019.
